the music of the wu wei / alexis baskind duo draws its inspiration from the beginnings of chinese civilization to the contemporary sound paintings of modern avant-gardists. the palette of sonic colors brought to life by the interplay between strings (erhu, double bass), harmonics (sheng, double bass) and the complicity between the two musicians, carries a partly composed, partly improvised music, inspired by traditional chinese music, the vast world of free improvisation, and their other duo “a forest of pipes” with sheng and electronics
